HA NOI (VNS) — The Ha Noi Police today arrested six Chinese nationals for allegedly using fake credit cards to appropriate money via Point of Sale devices.

While two of them, Sun Wei Hong, 40, and He Dong Ping, 39, were arrested together, a group of four -- Liu Dong Jin, 40, Lin Feng Hui, 31, Le Peng Feit, 51, and Li Qing Guo, 43 – was arrested in a separate operation.

Last September, the first two Chinese nationals started looking for a Vietnamese citizen from whom they could borrow a POS device, so they could use fake credit cards to appropriate money.

On May 19, the two managed to get a machine and withdrew VND393 million (US$18,078). They were arrested after they were caught using the money for personal purposes.

POS is an equipment that allows a customer to use a credit card issued by a bank to make payments to merchants in exchange for goods or services.

The four others arrested were found using fake credit cards with the help of the information of cardholders they got from hackers. They were caught when they were trying to withdraw more than VND94 million ($4,324) from one of their fake bank accounts.

The police are conducting a thorough investigation of the case. — VNS
