HA NOI (VNS) — Ha Noi Police Department's hi-tech crimes division (PC50) on Thursday arrested three people who used computer networks to steal and sell customer credit information from businesses.

Those arrested include Le Van Nguyen, Nguyen Trong Hong, and Dang Quang Thanh Thanh, who are residents of Trung Hoa Ward, Ha Noi Capital's Cau Giay District.

The three suspects, each age 25 years old, previously worked in the network security field.

According to reports from police investigators, Nguyen often plays on-line games at a game shop called Arena, which located in Bach Khoa Ward, Ha Noi's Hai Ba Trung District.

He is believed to have attacked the Arena shop's host computer and stole passwords at the end of last month. His actions have affected the operation of the shop's network.

In addition, Nguyen is charged with working with two accomplices, who also studied at a university specialising in information technology, in attacking other websites to steal credit information from customers and selling this information.

Officials said the suspects gained access to information from some 48,110 credit card accounts from two overseas websites and sold this information for over VND400 million (US$18,300).

The police investigation is continuing. — VNS
