HCM CITY (VNS) — The Ministry of Health's maternal – child health department has released a handbook to guide implementation of Decree No. 100/2014/ND-CP on trade in and use of nutritious products for infants, feeding bottles and nipples at a seminar held on Monday in HCM City.

This was the second seminar among a series to be held in the country after the first one in Ha Noi.

The content will be updated regularly on the department's website http://mch.moh.gov.vn.

The decree promotes breastfeeding, which is part of National Strategy on Nutrition in the 2011-2020 period and vision to 2030.

Luu Thi Hong, head of Maternal-Child Health Department, said: "To guarantee nutrition for children and decrease the malnutrition ratio, the collaboration of the whole society is needed."

One of the key points of the decree is to strengthen education, promulgation and communications on breastfeeding children up to six months old and supplementing meals for children from the seventh month.

Vuong Ngoc Tuan, deputy general secretary of Viet Nam Standard and Consumers Association, said information about milk products was still limited.

Consumers will now have clear and sufficient information via this handbook.

Attending the seminar were representatives from inspection agencies, market management agencies, consumer rights protection associations, women's associations, and businesses trading in nutritional products, feeding bottles and nipples for infants in HCM City and neighbouring provinces. — VNS
