HA NOI (VNS) — The section from Hai Duong City to Hai Phong City of the Ha Noi-Hai Phong Highway will be opened to the public on May 19.
The project's investor, the Viet Nam Infrastructure Development and Finance Investment Joint Stock Company, has asked for permission to collect toll from that day.
General Director of the firm Nguyen Van Tinh said the proposed toll would be the same as that collected on other highways, including the Noi Bai-Lao Cai, Ben Luc-Long Thanh and Cau Gie-Ninh Binh highways.
For every 1km, the fee would be VND1,500 (US$0.7). For the section's full length of 22.7km, the toll would be VND35,000 ($1.65) for vans with 12 seats or less, and VND180,000 ($8.5) for buses and container trucks of more than 18 tonnes.
The rest of the Ha Noi-Hai Phong Highway, which is about 76km long, will be opened by August this year.
Tinh also said from 2016, the fee would be VND2,000 ($0.9) per kilometre for each car or van.
The Ha Noi-Hai Phong Highway Project started in 2008 with an investment capital of more than VND47 trillion ($2.2 billion). The 105km-long highway has been designed for speeds of up to 120kmph.
Compared to the initial progress proposal, the project is lagging behind by four years. Transport Minister Dinh La Thang has asked the project investor to complete the project by the end of this year. — VNS
