HA NOI (VNS) — Vietnamese fishing boats on Monday rescued four of five fishermen who had gone missing after their vessel, with six crew members aboard, sank off the southernmost province of Ca Mau last Saturday.
The Viet Nam Maritime Rescue and Co-ordination Centre (Viet Nam MRCC) said that rescue efforts are underway, searching for the remaining crew member, captain Huynh Tan Dat, 43.
The boat, coded TG 02629 TS, sank about 165 nautical miles south of the Ca Mau Cape at 2:00 pm on Saturday due to a gas explosion onboard, reported the Viet Nam MRCC.
The boat, originally from the s outhern province of Tien Giang, was wrecked by the explosion and five of the six crew members went missing while the other was rescued soon after by a Vietnamese fishing boat, the Viet Nam MRCC said.
More fishing boats should be mobilised to search for the remaining captain, the National Committee for Search and Rescue said. — VNS
