LAM DONG (VNS) — The rescue team has been working around the clock to ensure the safety of twelve workers trapped inside a tunnel at the Da Dang – Dachomo hydropower plant in Lam Dong Province.
The province's military headquarters dispatched combat engineers to the site to support the rescue effort. Wood and metal bars were used to reinforce the tunnel from the inside to prevent another collapse.
Inside the tunnel where the workers were trapped since Tuesday, rainwater has risen to about 1.4m last night. A water pump was installed to drain the water while the rescue team drilled from the other side of the tunnel to release water and mud.
Medical facilities were set up outside the tunnel to provide medical care to the workers once they were brought out.

Minister of Construction Trinh Dinh Dung and Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang arrived yesterday to direct the rescue effort.
"We are drilling from three sides and there is a good chance we will be able to get to them," said Dung, adding that the priority was to keep the water level inside the tunnel under control before digging any further.
Viet Nam National Coal – Mineral Industries sent a team of mine rescue specialists and drilling machines to the site.
The ministers said the number one priority was to ensure the safety of the trapped miners. The cause of the incident would be investigated later.
In the meantime, the Da Dang – Dachomo hydropower project will be halted. – VNS
