QUANG NGAI (VNS)— The captains of two fishing boats in the central province of Quang Ngai have been fined for fishing in foreign waters without permission from authorised agencies.
Under a decision announced by the High Command of the province's Border Guard on Thursday, Captain Duong Tan Dong and Captain Tieu Viet Thuan will have to pay a total fine of VND120 million (US$5,700).
The two fishing boats, with 28 fishermen on board, were registered to fish in the waters off Viet Nam's Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago. However, Dong and Thuan steered their vessels into foreign waters where they were caught by foreign agencies.
The two boats returned to Viet Nam on November 19. — VNS
