DA NANG (VNS) — Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan yesterday expressed her hope that Operation Smile would support Vietnamese children with cleft palates and lips with surgery.
Receiving the US-based non-governmental organisation's (NGO) Chief Executive Officer William Magee in Ha Noi, she also hoped for continued support in personnel training and technology transfer.
Praising Operation Smile's work in Viet Nam over the past 25 years, Doan said it had contributed greatly to strengthening Viet Nam–US relations and helped nearly 115,000 Vietnamese children with disabilities lead normal lives.
Magee said that as the first NGO to work in Viet Nam, Operation Smile was committed to providing free medical services in the long-term.
Operation Smile is working with the Ministry of Health to bring global healthcare standards to the country, and hopes for the government's support in bringing more skilled voluntary surgeons to Viet Nam, Magee said. — VNS
