HA NOI (VNS) — There are no alleged "prisoners of conscience" in Viet Nam, Foreign Ministry Vice Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated.

The clarification was made in response to reporters' questions yesterday regarding the case of Nguyen Van Hai, considered a "prisoner of conscience" by the US Department of State, who recently travelled to the US.

"The State of Viet Nam has decided to temporarily suspend the jail sentence on Nguyen Van Hai and allow him to fly to the US for humanitarian reasons," she said. — VNS
