Chinese man fined for attempt to buy wife

TAY NINH (VNS) — The People's Committee of Tay Ninh Province fined a Chinese man VND20 million (US$943) for taking part in illegal human trafficking of Vietnamese brides.

Wei Ji Jun, 28, was found on September 20 to be involved in human trafficking in Tay Ninh in the Mekong Delta. The police arrested two Vietnamese people and another Chinese man for selling foreigners local women to marry.

The suspects told the police that Wei Ji Jun had come to select a Vietnamese woman he could marry.

He was fined according to Government decree 167/2013/ND-CP, which took effect in November 2013. — VNS
