HA NOI (VNS) — The Centre for Integrated Rural Development in Asia and the Pacific began its 29th technical conference yesterday in Ha Noi.
This year's agenda addresses issues facing rural development, such as the climate-change impact on farming and food security, poverty reduction and the role of women in agriculture.
Cecep Effendi, general director of the centre, said that member countries needed to share more of their development experience, especially in the use of technology.
A workshop titled Sharing of Best Practices will be held on September 17 and 18. It will provide a forum for members of the centre to share and learn from each other in promoting rural development.
Founded in 1979, the centre was born from a joint initiative of the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation and Asia-Pacific countries to promote regional co-operation and support rural development through integrated and trans-national research, training and information transparency.
Le Quoc Doanh, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, expressed hope that the centre's 15 members and other international organisations would support ongoing efforts to become more self-motivated. — VNS
