LAI CHAU (VNS) — Five people were swept away and two were injured by floodwaters which hit Thac Can Village, Tam Duong Town, in the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau, at 2am today.

All of the dead and injured persons were members of the same family in the village.

Two bodies have been found, while rescue workers are searching for the remaining three bodies.

Around the same time, a large rock fell on a bed in a household, killing a child and injuring a couple in Chu Va 8 Village, in Tam Duong Town's Son Binh Commune. The couple are receiving treatment at the Tam Duong Hospital. — VNS
