CAN THO (VNS) — The city authorities of Can Tho broke ground for construction of 18 new bridges in two rural communes of Vinh Thanh District yesterday.
With a total length of 354 metres, the new bridges will be 3.5 metres wide and open to vehicles of three tonnes each of cargo.
The new seven bridges in Thanh Quoi Commune and 11 bridges in Thanh My Commune will replace wooden bridges and others that are unsafe for traffic and cargo transport.
Construction of these bridges will cost VND6.72 billion (US$316,000) and is funded by the Lien Viet Post commercial bank's Can Tho branch.
The new bridges will open in October this year, according to the deputy chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, Vo Thanh Thong. — VNS
