NINH BINH  (VNS) —The contributions made by Buddhism to sustainable development, environmental protection, healthy lifestyles, peace-keeping and education were highlighted at forums held in Ninh Binh Province yesterday.

The forums were held within the framework of the ongoing 2014 United Nations Day of Vesak (Buddha's Birth, Enlightenment and Passing Away) in the northern province.

Delegates from home and abroad focused on the attention paid by Buddhist precepts and the community to global issues.

They called on all countries and territories to firmly implement commitments made to fighting poverty, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation and gender discrimination.

They also stressed the importance for each nation to have appropriate policies to facilitate sustainable development that ensures preservation of scarce natural resources for current and future generations. —VNS
