First quarter traffic accidents, deaths down

HA NOI (VNS) — More than 6,500 traffic accidents claimed 2,500 lives in the first quarter of this year, the National Traffic Safety Committee reports.

It said this marked a year-on-year decrease of 13.71 per cent in the number of accidents, 5.86 per cent in fatalities and 17.45 per cent in the number of people injured.

Also in the first quarter, police recorded nearly one million of road traffic violations, imposed fines worth VND577 billion (US$28.2 million), seized thousands of vehicles and revoked 77,000 driving licenses, the committee said. — VNS
