Ca Mau braces for forest fires

Update: March, 27/2014 - 08:07
CA MAU (VNS)— Almost 34,000 hectares of forest in the southern province of Ca Mau is facing a high fire risk due to water shortages and a prolonged dry season, according to forest management officials.

Local fire-fighting teams, forest rangers and round-the-clock patrols have been placed on high alert and have prepared fire-fighting equipment to prevent the outbreak of large-scale fires.

Ca Mau authorities have also issued statements discouraging local residents from travelling into forest areas, many of whom do so to gather wood or hunt for wildlife. — VNS
