Japanese insurer funds free cataract surgeries

QUANG NAM (VNS)— A programme to conduct free cataract surgery for 200 poor patients started in the central province of Quang Nam on Sunday.

Funded by the Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company of Japan, the VND300 million (US$14,100) programme will benefit over 250 poor people.

The same day, the Association for Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin Victims of the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre granted 116 scholarships to AO child victims.

The scholarships, worth VND94.5 million ($4,400), were funded by the Viet Nam's Friends Association in France (Les Amis du Vietnam) and Vo Thi Hao, an overseas Vietnamese in Canada. — VNS
