BAC LIEU (VNS) — A five-month old infant died on Sunday four hours after being injected with the 5-in-1 Quinvaxem vaccine in a health station of southern Bac Lieu Province's Hung Phu Commune.
The baby was vaccinated according to the process issued by the Ministry of Health. The vaccine was tested for quality before use.
Under initial investigation, the baby died after showing signs of suffocation, convulsion as well as foaming at the mouth. The cause of the baby's death is still under investigation.
There were other 17 children injected with the vaccine on the same day as the dead child. All of them were currently in good health.
The vaccine was re-instated in October this year after a five-month nation-wide suspension due to nine child deaths.
Relating to reactions of the children after vaccination with the multiple serums, the ratio of high fever was reported to be 0.187 per cent, paleness - 0.032 per cent, suffocation - 0.011 per cent and convulsions - 0.023 per cent.
The ratios are lower World Health Organisation recorded incidences of adverse reactions to the inoculations. — VNS
