Viet Nam to clear mines left from war

LANG SON (VNS) — The Ministry of National Defence yesterday launched a two-year project to clear landmines and explosive remnants from wars in the northeastern provinces of Cao Bang and Lang Son.

According to Major General Pham Thanh Son, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Command No.1, the VND74 billion (US$3.5 million) project aims to make 657ha of land in Cao Bang's Coc Pang Commune and Lang Son's Quoc Khanh Commune clean.

Land mines remain in approximately 3.249ha of the border area between the two provinces. — VNS
