HCM CITY (VNS) — A major fire drill involving high-rise buildings was held in downtown HCM City on Wednesday with assistance from the Ministries of Public Security and Defence.

The fire spread first to the entertainment area, then the entire fifth floor, and then to the fourth and sixth floors totally measuring around 1,200 square metres.

Around 2,000 people, including customers and staff, were in the mall when the fire broke out, and rescuers evacuated 1,700 people immediately. But 100 people were injured and stuck in the fifth floor while 200 others were trapped from the sixth to 21st floors.

All were soon rescued through the glass windows of the fifth, 13th, and other floors by firefighters who used stretchers, metal and rope ladders, ropes, and escape chutes.

There were nearly 2,800 participants including from the city Fire Fighting Police, the police, Department of Health, and Military Zone 7.
