LAM DONG (VNS)- A national-level exercise simulating an illegal intrusion into civil aviation activities was staged yesterday at Lien Khuong Airport in Central Highlands Lam Dong Province with more than 1,000 participants.

The simulation will help mitigate the loss of lives and damages to property if any such incidents occurred, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai told those participating in the exercise, organised by the National Civil Aviation Committee.

During the drill, participants acted out situations including public disturbances and riots, arresting terrorists, rescuing hostages from the terminal, aircraft and the command tower, detecting bombs and clearing toxic chemicals.

Participants consisted of personnel from the special task police force under the Ministry of Public Security's mobile police high command, the Air-Air Defence Force and Military Zone 7 as well as relevant forces from Lam Dong Province.

Apart from improving skills in combat command and coordination, the exercise aimed to make forces more vigilant and help them improve their rescuing capabilities, particularly when it came to acts of terrorism such as hijackings. — VNS
