HA NOI (VNS) – The People's Committee of Central Quang Nam Province asked national power provider EVN to provide VND3.7 billion (US$177,000) to Bac Tra My District to support work on dealing with consequences of recent earthquakes.
EVN is the investor of Song Tranh 2 Hydro Power Plant, which has been linked to the recent earth tremors in the area.
The province also recommended that EVN support the district with VND2.5 billion ($119,000) for repair work on 856 houses and eight public works in the district which had been damaged or seriously affected by a series of earthquakes in recent months. The firm was also asked to give financial assistance of VND692.7 million ($32,950) for repairing roads in the district.
In addition, two days ago, a team from the State Authority for Construction Quality Inspection, lead by Deputy Director Bui Trung Dung, carried out a survey of quake damage in the locality.
Dang Phong, the chairman of the district's People's Committee, said households in the locality that were affected by the earthquake are poor. Each household will receive from VND2-4 million ($96-192).
Dung said there are many measures that can be taken for houses and public works to be more resistant to tremors, such as ensuring that walls are not too high.
According to the construction minister, the priority is to ensure the safety of local people. Technical structure experts will help advice on work to repair houses in the area, he said. — VNS
