Quarter of adults have high blood pressure

Update: October, 10/2012 - 10:31

HCM CITY (VNS)– At least 25 per cent of Vietnamese over 25 years old have high blood pressure, a figure that is rising rapidly, according to Nguyen Lan Viet, head of the National Cardiology Institute in the 13rd national cardiology conference, ending today.

In 1960, only 1.5 per cent of Vietnamese over 25 years old had high blood pressure. In 1970, it was 10.1 per cent, and in 2000, more than 16 per cent.

Viet attributed the rise to a lack of exercise, smoking, stress and an improper diet, including too much salt, fat and protein.— VNS
