Update: September, 24/2012 - 10:01

HA NOI (VNS)— The remains of 14 Vietnamese workers killed in a garment factory fire in the Russian town of Yegoryevsk on September 11 were handed over to their families yesterday.

The hand-over ceremony was held at Noi Bai International Airport with the participation of representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia and Viet Nam's Department of Consular Affairs, under the Foreign Ministry.

The repatriation and funeral costs were supported by the Vietnamese embassy and community living in Russia, who held a service for the victims on Friday.

One person was critically injured in the fire.

The Viet Nam News Agency reported that the Vietnamese-owned factory, about 100km southeast of Moscow, employed about 50 workers, mostly Vietnamese.

The agency said the fire was likely caused by an electrical short. — VNS
