HUNG YEN — Land clearance has been completed at the site of a development project in northern Hung Yen Province's Van Giang District.
The People's Committee ofthe district yesterday handed 72 hectares of cleared agricultural land in Xuan Quan Commune to the investor of the Van Giang Urban-Trade-Tourism Project.
More than 66ha of the land were voluntarily handed over by households who have accepted compensation, but 5.8ha were seized by force from 166 households who have so far rejected the compensation, according to Bui Huy Thanh, administrative director of the committee's office.
Absolute safety was achieved for the people and vehicles involved in the work, which was carried out in conformity with Government instruction, and security and order in the locality were stable, he said.
The project, covering nearly 500ha in the district's Xuan Quan, Phung Cong and Cuu Cao communes and described as greatly important to the socio-economic development of the district and the province, was approved by the Prime Minister in March 2003.
It offers the highest compensation and plans to provide jobs for those who have their land resumed for the projects. — VNS
