KHANH HOA — Border guards in the southern central province of Khanh Hoa handed over a Filipino man who was rescued by a Vietnamese fisherman to the Filipino Embassy in Viet Nam on Monday.
Fisherman Nguyen Duy Thanh from the central province of Quang Ngai rescued Richard Bacunawa as he drifted off the southeast coast of Song Tu Tay in the Truong Sa Island District on February 21.
He was taken into the care of the provincial border guard.
Deputy commander of the unit Nguyen Duc Phuc said that Bacunawa had gone into a state of panic after he was rescued, and given them false information about where he was from, making it difficult for them to contact the right embassy. — VNS
