THUA THIEN - HUE -- Mayors, other representatives, and professionals from 25 cities in 15 countries are attending the 13th World Conference of Historical Cities which opened in Hue yesterday (April 16).

The three-day conference, titled "Defining Universal Heritage, Challenges and Solutions," will see delegates exchange ideas on the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage values of historical cities.
There will also be an exhibition on historical cities.
Yesterday delegate attended a forum titled "Youth Awareness and Action in Promoting Traditional Cultural Heritage Values" and a seminar, "Industrial Heritage Challenges and Solutions."
City representatives are scheduled to attend a roundtable called "Heritage policy and Action Plan for a Better Local Governance" today (Tuesday).
The first World Conference of Historical Cities was held in Kyoto, Japan, in 1987 with 26 cities from 25 countries taking part.
This organisation now groups 88 cities in 56 countries, including Ha Noi and Hue, which became members in 2006. -- VNS
