HA NOI — Sixteen Party members who are leaders of the People's Committee of the city of Long Xuyen and five other districts in Mekong Delta An Giang Province have undergone investigation and face penalties for their violation of land management regulations.
Vo Nguyen Nam, head of the provincial People's Committee's office, said on Tuesday that these violation cases involved many local leaders but had been detected quite late.
Specifically, the Long Xuyen municipal People's Committee violated rules on changing usage purposes involving four projects and 85,000sq.m of land. Their actions caused losses of VND1.14 billion (US$54,000) from the State budget, Nam said.
People's Committees of the districts of An Phu, Chau thanh, Chau Doc, Phu Tan and Cho Moi also violated the Land Law when issuing certificates of land use rights for 63 households which made illegal use of and infringed on alluvial lands.
The Tinh Bien District People's Committee also acted inappropriately in relocating and compensating households in the district's Nui Cam Tourism Area, disrupting the lives of local residents.
Huynh The Nang, vice chairman of the provincial People's Committee, said these violations were facing further investigation and violators faced possible criminal penalties.
Nang said necessary measures would be taken to stop illegal use of alluvial and agricultural lands.
Earlier this week, authorities in the central province of Phu Yen's Tuy An district reprimanded two officials for allowing 48 households to encroach on 67,000sq.m of protected forest land to raise shrimp. — VNS
