KHANH HOA – A workshop aimed at enhancing the national capacity for bird flu risk appraisal by linking animal health, health treatment, virus testing and epidemiology opened today in the central province of Khanh Hoa.
The workshop takes place as bird flu has spread to the provinces of Kien Giang, Thai Nguyen and Bac Giang, increasing the number of provinces with the disease to nine.
Titled linking four sectors in bird flu fighting and prevention in Viet Nam, the three-day seminar will attract 100 participants who are mainly international and local experts and provincial workers charged with fighting the disease.
Participants have been given guiding principles for appraising risks related to the disease, such as how it affects people's health and how to process information from the four sectors.
The importance of data collection and of connecting data from different organisations as well as technical limitations and policies relating to preventing and controlling the disease were high on workshop's agenda.
Seminar organisers also plan to deliver samples on bird flu reports, help attendants determine action plans and steps to solve problems arising in the aftermath of an outbreak.
The workshop is co-organised by the Food and Agriculture Organisation, World Health Organisation, World Organisation of Animal Health, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. – VNS
