HA NOI -- Fulfilling social responsibilities was a way for enterprises to raise the value of their brands and competitiveness and help to ensure sustainable development, said Nguyen Hoa Binh, standing vice chairman of the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) at a workshop that wrapped up in Ha Noi today.
The two-day workshop themed "Corporate social responsibly and the role of trade unions" was held by the VGCL in co-operation with the Confederation of German Trade Unions (DGB).
It was held as part of the project "Raising trade unions' role to speed up the implementation of corporate social responsibility in Viet Nam", part of a three year project started by the DGB in 2008.
Susanne Ludwig, the project's co-ordinator, said the workshop aimed to bolster the friendship and solidarity between Vietnamese trade unions and those of other countries, while allowing them to share experiences in raising corporate responsibility.
A representative of the Singaporean Trade Union said the fulfilment of social responsibility proved that an enterprise operated well and co-operated smoothly with relevant partners. At the workshop, participants also discussed the difficulties and challenges facing Viet Nam in boosting corporate social responsibly in the context of globalisation, and proposed solutions to existing problems. -- VNS
