HA NOI — A tropical low was to move to the northeastern part of East Sea and likely to develop into a tropical storm during the next 24 hours, warned the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.
At 1pm yesterday, its front stood about 160km from Taiwan, with winds gusting at between 50 to 61kph at its epicentre.
The weather system is forecast to move in a west and northwesterly direction at 10-15kph while strengthening into a tropical storm during the next 24 hours.
Due to the storm, the northeast parts of the East Sea are expecting rough seas.
Man dies in coal mine, two taken to hospital
HOA BINH — A man choked to death on Monday in a coal mine in Cuoi Ha Commune, in northern province of Hoa Binh's Kim Boi District, reported the local police.
The victim was Bui Nguyen Ngoc Son, 18, of the commune's Vo Hamlet.
He was reported to have entered the mine to fix electrical wiring. Two other men who attempted to save the victim were also taken to hospital for treatment.
Safety floats installed at ferry stations
DA NANG — Central Da Nang City's Road Safety Committee installed 200 floats as lifebuoys at five ferry stations on Monday.
They included ferry stations of Toan, Man Quang, Truong Dinh, Ba Hong and Loc My Ha.
The floats consist of a rectangular piece of foam (30x20x17cm) covered by polyester.
14 railway crossings to be established
HA NOI — The Ministry of Transport on Monday approved a project to establish 14 level-crossings to minimise traffic accidents.
The level-crossings will run over the fourth northen train lines, including Ha Noi-Dong Dang.
Viet Nam currently has 5,572 illegal level-crossings and nearly 92 per cent out of 1,500 legal level-crossings do not meet safety standards, according to Pham Van Binh, head of the Viet Nam Railways' Railway Traffic Safety Committee. — VNS
