Inspectors find tainted milk
QUANG NGAI — Inspectors from central Quang Ngai Province’s
Health Department on Tuesday found Vivinal Gos allergic milk products being sold
in the province, said Nguyen Thai Son, deputy inspector of the department.
The two major distributors, the Minh Chieu and Van Khoi
companies, recalled only about 3,560 milk packages out of the total 36,720,
though they had been told to recall all products on October 28.
HCM CITY — After inspecting 10 hospitals, supermarkets and
distributors in HCM City, Health Ministry inspectors found 12 out of 45 milk
products with wrong information in their labels on Tuesday.
The products include Kornlat from the Hancofood joint
stock company, Growsure of Bibica Co Ltd, Dutch Lady 400g packages
by Viet Nam Friesland Campina company, for children under six months of age, and
XO of NamYang Co Ltd, for children under three months old.
The inspectors also found feeding bottles without essential
information on them for cleaning and sterilisation.
Men jailed for bogus labour
QUANG NGAI — Nguyen Tan Hong, director of the Nguyen Hong Cuong
Co Ltd in central Quang Ngai province, was sentenced on Tuesday to 14 years in
prison for cheating, appropriating and making fake documents, said the
provincial People’s Court.
Hong’s accomplice, Luong Phu Bach, the company’s vice director,
was sentenced to seven years in prison.
Under the verdict, Hong and Bach cheated residents who wanted to
work abroad and stole over VND1 billion (US$55,000) from them during 2006-07.
Petro Vietnam helps typhoon
HA NOI — About VND4.4 billion (US$246,000) has been given to
people in five storm-hit central and central highland provinces by the Viet Nam
National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) and the PetroVietnam Fertilizer and
Chemical Joint Stock Company.
The provinces that will receive funds include Phu Yen, Binh
Dinh, Gia Lai, Ninh Thuan and Khanh Hoa. — VNS
