1,400 overseas Vietnamese to attend Ha Noi meeting

HA NOI — Nearly 1,400 delegates will attend an overseas Vietnamese meeting in Ha Noi aimed at strengthening their community and contributing to national development.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Nguyen Phuong Nga said yesterday the meeting would be the first for Viet Nam.

She said it would also help promote and preserve traditional culture.

The meeting would be held from November 21-23.

Also yesterday, Nga announced that Habitat for Humanity International had selected Viet Nam to begin a pilot project to build houses for the poor.

Thirty-two houses will be built in Dong Xa Village, Binh Giang District, in northern Hai Duong Province.

The project is part of the US Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project 2009. — VNS
