PetroVietnam declared labour hero in capital

HA NOI — PetroVietnam was made a Hero of Labour in Ha Noi yesterday.

President Nguyen Minh Triet, who made the award, also presented the PetroVietnam-Vietsovpetro Joint Venture general director Tran Le Dong with the title.

Eight others of the State-owned group’s senior managers were honoured with Labour Medals, first and second class.

The president warmly congratulated the petroleum industry for its achievements and contributions to the development of society, the economy, national construction and protection of the country at the ceremony.

The title Hero of Labour and other noble awards the State bestowed on the group; its working teams and individuals affirmed petroleum as the economy’s key industry and contributor to State revenue, he said.

The President asked PetroVietnam to honestly acknowledge difficulties and shortcomings so that it could quickly develop further.

The petroleum industry was growing successfully with projects in many regions beyond Viet Nam, but the Party, State and people wanted its development to become firmer and more sustainable, he said.

The industry had to prepare itself to satisfy the country’s requirements and tasks in a new situation, he warned.

The world economy would continue to fluctuate in unexpected ways this year and the industry had to fully acknowledge its role, status and responsibilities to meet the Party, State and people’s expectations.

PetroVietnam has set a revenue target of VND212.5 trillion (US$12 billion) this year with a VND61.6 trillion ($3.5 billion) contribution to the State budget. — VNS
