orders enforcement of firecracker ban during Tet
HCM CITY — Prime
Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has instructed local administrations to deal sternly
with the illegal production and distribution of firecrackers, and to ensure
safety and order during Tet (lunar New Year) which will come later this month.
In an instruction last
Friday, the Prime Minister urged People’s Committees to work together with the
Fatherland Front to propagate awareness of the issue.
He called on the media to
highlight laws banning the production, stockpiling and trading of firecrackers.
Dung called on the border
guards, customs officials, traffic police and market management agencies to keep
a close eye on the border and other entry points like airports and bus stations
as well as vehicles for violation of the firecracker and traffic laws.
Local authorities would
have to bear full responsibility if there are excessive traffic accidents or
firecrackers in their areas, he said.
Teachers and students in
HCM City have pledged to the Ministry of Education and Training and the
municipal Committee of the Youth Union not to violate traffic laws or let off
firecrackers during the occasion.
Since August last year,
authorities have seized over seven tonnes of firecrackers smuggled in from China
and arrested 136 smugglers. — VNS
