Van Hien magazine launches e-news website

HA NOI — An e-news version of Van Hien Viet Nam magazine has been released at www.vanhien.net with aim to meet the demand of its readers, especially those abroad, who want to discover the traditional culture of Viet Nam, said Pham Viet Long, editor-in-chief of the magazine.

During the experimental process, the e-news shows all volumes published since 2005. Then, various permanent columns of culture, art and research will be published.

Van Hien Viet Nam magazine was published for the first time in 2000. The publication is available in foreign countries, and is expected to be released in the US next year.

The electric version is built by the Centre for Research, Conservation and Development of National Culture in co-operation with Digital Telecommunication Technology Corporation.

Overseas artists return for special performance

HA NOI — A special music performance with the theme of Tieng Hat Coi Nguon (Songs from the Root) will be held at the National Convention Centre, Ha Noi on January 13.

The performance will highlight various overseas artists such as Phi Nhung, Ai Van and Linda Trang Dai, along with domestic singers such as Dam Vinh Hung, Quang Dung and Ho Ngoc Ha.

Miss World 2007 Zhang Zilin and Miss World 2008 will attend the performance.

The programme will be organised by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Fund for Supporting and Mobilising Overseas Vietnamese Community (FOVC), RASS Company and An Ninh The Gioi (World Security) newspaper with total expense of VND1.2 billion (nearly US$71,500).

France, VN to collaborate on environmental research

HA NOI — Two training courses on sea ecology and the environment will open for French and Vietnamese researchers next March in Do Son District, Hai Phong City.

The project is being organised by the Viet Nam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), in co-operation with National Centre of Scientific Research (CNRS), said VAST director Chau Van Minh.

An event was held last week to mark 25 years of co-operation between VAST and CNRS. To mark the occasion, the French Embassy organised a conference on Monday under the theme Scientific Policies at the French Cultural Centre, Ha Noi. — VNS
