ordered to fight gun crime
HA NOI — Deputy Minister
of Public Security Le The Tiem yesterday ordered police nationwide to crack down
on crime - particularly gun crime associated with criminal gangs in HCM City and
the southern provinces.
Speaking at a conference
on law and order, Tiem said gun crime in the first six-months of this year had
been a serious cause for concern and that criminal gangs had been responsible
for armed attacks, drug trafficking and extortion.
Tiem ordered provincial
police chiefs to crack down on drug crime - in accordance with instructions from
the Prime Minister and the Public Security Ministry.
The Deputy Minister said
security forces would have their hands full fighting corruption in key economic
areas, as well as smuggling and trading in illegal goods. He also called on
officers to improve road safety and enforce the Law on Residence. — VNS
