general dies at 85
HA NOI — General Mai Chi
Tho, 85, former minister of home affairs, now called the Ministry of Public
Security, passed away from a serious illness at Army Hospital 108 in Ha Noi on
Tho was a member of the
Party Central Committee (4th, 5th, 6th congress) and Politburo (6th congress).
He was also former chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee and secretary
of the HCM City Party Committee.
During his career, he
received the Gold Star Order, the highest honour given by the Vietnamese State,
and a 60-year Party membership insignia as well as many other awards for his

a State memorial service at the General Hall of the Municipal Party Committee in
HCM City on June 3. He will be buried on June 5. — VNS
