course opens for overseas Vietnamese in US
Noi — A Vietnamese language course for Vietnamese students at the City
College of San Francisco and San Francisco State University in the US kicked off
in Ha Noi yesterday.
The course, for which 19
students have enrolled, was organised by the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese
Affairs (COVA), and is designed to boost understanding of Viet Nam’s history
and culture - as well as Vietnamese language skills.
Students will visit
President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and the Museum of Ethnology. They will also
travel to Sapa, in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai, to learn about
Vietnamese ethnic groups.
Derick Earl Brown is
visiting Viet Nam for the first time. "I am very happy to learn about the
history and culture of Viet Nam," he said.
This is the third
Vietnamese language course held by COVA for expat Vietnamese. The first was held
in 2005 for Vietnamese students in France and the second in 2006 for Vietnamese
students from the US. — VNS
