US foundation helps to build workshop for north’s disabled

THAI BINH — The Viet Nam Veterans of America Foundation is providing technical support to build an orthopaedic workshop in the northern province of Thai Binh’s Rehabilitation Hospital.

The workshop, which has received a grant of US$20,000 from the United States Agency for International Development and the Boeing Company, is being built in the province’s Rehabilitation Hospital in Kien Xuong District.

Until September 2009, the foundation will focus on building and supplying equipment for the workshop and organising training courses for orthopaedic surgeons in the province.

Last Wednesday, the foundation presented 250 wheelchairs to Nam Dinh AGAPE Hospital.

The wheelchairs will be assembled by teams of doctors and therapists at nine hospitals in the north of Viet Nam.

The shipment of 250 differently sized wheelchairs will be given to 90 disabled children and 160 disable adults in Ha Noi, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Hoa Binh, Ha Nam, Ha Giang, Hai Duong and Thanh Hoa.

The foundation is also providing a range of other services for disabled people through the rehabilitation programme.

Dr Hoang Cao Sa, director of AGAPE Hospital said: "We wish to express our sincere thanks to the organisations for their support.

They have done so many good things for mobility-impaired people, helping them to improve the quality of their lives."

There are about 130,000 people with disabilities in the province. — VNS
