HCM City People's Committee deputy chairman dies in car accident

HCM CITY — Lê Hòa Bình, deputy chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee, died in a traffic accident on Tuesday morning on the HCM City–Trung Lương Highway, according to Long An Province’s Department of Health.

At around 7:45 am, Bình was travelling to Bến Tre for the Rạch Miễu 2 bridge opening ceremony when the vehicle suffered a tire blowout in Long An Province’s Bến Lức District, crashing into a concrete traffic barrier before turning on its side.

He was travelling with the driver and another person.

Bình was admitted to the Long An General Hospital, but his heart had stopped before he arrived. Despite doctors’ best efforts, he passed away.

At 11:30 am, Phan Văn Mãi, Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee, visited the hospital along with Bình’s family.

City officials have brought Bình’s body back to HCM City for the funeral. Funeral details and information will be available soon.

HCM City and Long An said they would cooperate to investigate the cause of the accident.

Lê Hòa Bình, born on April 1, 1970, in the central province of Quảng Ngãi, was appointed as deputy chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee for 2021-26 by the HCM City People’s Council in late 2020. He was assigned responsibilities related to urban planning.
