BUENOS AIRES — Two Vietnamese crewmen suffered burns during a fire on a South Korean fishing boat anchored in Montevideo Port, Uruguay on Friday.
Authorities in Montevideo City reported that the fire destroyed the ship completely. They said there were 34 people working on board when the blaze occurred; four of them were injured.
The ship was anchored at the port since July for maintenance. Authorities are investigating the case further as many similar fires have occurred in the area recently.
Three young children electrocuted in Lao Cai
HA NOI — Pham Thanh Truc, 11, of northern Lao Cai Province's Phong Nien Commune was electrocuted on Saturday evening when using a stainless steel rod to dislodge a toy propeller trapped in electrical cables.
Two of Truc's younger brothers were injured as they were standing nearby when the accident happened.
During the weekend, officers from HCM City and Ha Noi's Market Watch divisions found many toys on sale that did not have certificates of origin. BINH THUAN — Central BInh Thuan Province's Natural Resources and Environment Department suspended operations at the Anh Duong Joint Stock Company, a titanium exploiter, yesterday after spotting that waste from company was overflowing into the farms of local residents.
Heavy rains since Saturday made waste sand discharged from a titanium mine overflow from the company's dump into fruit gardens and the properties of local resident Tran Van Chau, who lives about 60 metres away from the dump.
The household and local authority are removing the sand, asking the company to take drastic measures to solve the problem and offer compensation.
Bridge collapse kills one man, injures 2 students
AN GIANG — A man driving a motorbike and two young students were injured after falling into a river when the bridge they were on collapsed.
Bridge No 15 in Tri Ton District, southern An Giang Province collapsed on Saturday afternoon.
It is reported that the bridge collapsed after an overloaded truck carrying iron, weighing about 30 tonnes, crossed the bridge, which was designed to accommodate vehicles of up to 8 tonnes.
The collapse blocked local traffic and residents have had to cross the river by boat since the collapse. — VNS
