HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam and Austria will step up bilateral co-operation in transport projects, and facilitate the transfer of knowledge and experiences in the transport sector.

Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed today in Ha Noi, Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang and Austrian Minister of Transport, Innovation and Technology Alois Stoger agreed on measures to boost bilateral collaboration such as consultation, co-operation and supporting each other in international forums such as the International Civil Aviation Organisation and the International Marine Organisation.

Both countries will continue personnel training and exchange experiences in managing and developing the transport sector.

Austria and Viet Nam have worked on railway projects using preferential credits. However, Stoger said he hoped for co-operation with Viet Nam in other sectors also such as aviation, road infrastructure and inland waterway transport.

Thang said the bilateral co-operation had not matched the potential in the two countries.

Pham Ngoc Tu, country manager of AVL, an Austria-based engineering firm operating for the last 10 years in Viet Nam, Singapore, and the Philippines' infrastructure market, said the only challenge when investing in Viet Nam were completing the procedures that usually took longer than in Singapore, but were still faster than in the Philippines.

He said the signing of the MoU would help Austrian corporations to receive more favorable conditions when they seek co-operation opportunities in Viet Nam. — VNS
