BÌNH DƯƠNG — The 10th anniversary celebration of the Vietnamese - German University (VGU) was held on September 8 at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Bình Dương Province.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam said that he hoped the VGU would become a leading research hub not only at the national level but at the regional and international levels as well.
Meeting with the university top officials during a visit to Bình Dương, he said they should focus on training human resources in sectors that need qualified workers such as automotive engineering, information technology, and sustainable urban planning.
VGU should aim to become an international-standard research university, whose achievements and reputation would be based on the results of its research shared with the country and the international community.
The university has had 33 papers published in international journals, presented 50 papers at prestigious national and international conferences, and organised 22 national and international conferences.
VGU was the first public university to be founded under the new-model university project in 2008.
It offers 11 programmes in science, and engineering and technology, six of them at the master’s level and the rest at the undergraduate level.
Besides Government funding, it also receives strong academic support from more than 30 German partner universities. — VNS
