Vietnamese ambassador bids farewell to Italy

ROME (VNS) — Italian President Sergio Mattarella hosted a reception in Rome on July 23 for Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Nguyen Hoang Long, who was bidding farewell at the end of his tenure.

President Mattarella spoke highly of the ambassador's contributions to developing friendship and co-operation between Italy and Viet Nam in recent years, thus lifting the bilateral relationship to the level of a strategic partnership.

He took the occasion to award the "Medal of Merit" – Italy's highest ranking honour – to the ambassador in recognition of his significant contribution.

Ambassador Nguyen Hoang Long said he was honoured to receive the medal and thanked the President and the Italian authorities for supporting the development of the Viet Nam-Italy strategic partnership. He pledged to do his utmost to boost bilateral ties in the future.

The ambassador reiterated State President Truong Tan Sang's invitation to President Mattarella to pay a state-level visit to Viet Nam. The Italian leader accepted the invitation with pleasure and promised to visit Viet Nam soon. — VNS
