Tourism tax breaks sought

The Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) held a seminar in HCM City on Tuesday to launch a programme to promote domestic tourism.

The programme targets 37.5 million domestic tourists in 2015 and attracting more Vietnamese living overseas to visit the country.

The VNAT has petitioned the Government for tax breaks for companies taking part in the programme and to invest in new tourism products and increase tourism co-operation.

City names six outstanding young citizens

The HCM City Communist Youth Union's Ward Council on Tuesday named six people as the city's outstanding young citizens of 2014.

They include Le Yen Thanh, a student at the HCM City University of Natural Sciences, Dr Tran Huu Loc, a lecturer at the HCM City University of Agriculture and Forestry, and Ta Thuy Chi, deputy head of the HCM City Dance School's Experimental Theatre.

Each of the selected persons is outstanding at the place they work or study. The award ceremony will be held on January 1.

Ministry seeks reports on Tet wages, bonus

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has sought reports from cities and provinces about companies' plans to pay their employees' salaries and bonuses for Tet (Lunar New Year).

Local authorities should ensure companies do not owe their employees any wages, it said.

Most companies in HCM City have yet to report because they are still faced with difficulties.

Waves, tides destroy houses in Khanh Hoa

At least 20 houses in Nha Trang City's Vinh Phuoc Ward in the central province of Khanh Hoa had been destroyed by waves as of Tuesday. On Monday strong waves destroyed six houses in the ward's Ha Ra Village.

In the central province of Binh Thuan, strong winds and high tides eroded 750 metres of coast in Tien Duc Hamlet in Phan Thiet City, causing eight houses to collapse and leaving 40 others facing a similar threat.
