HÀ NỘI — Kim Loan, a contestant on the reality TV singing competition The Voice Vietnam 2012, died last Wednesday after a long battle with the liver cancer, her daughter, singer Đan Trang announced on Facebook.

Kim Loan, a contestant on the reality TV singing competition The Voice Vietnam 2012, died on April

Hundreds of her friends, fans and colleagues commented to show sympathy for her loss.

Singer Bảo Anh, who was Loan’s teammate during The Voice Vietnam 2012 said: “Cancer – it’s a devil word. The one who used to be my coach was gone, now, another one who was my teammate succumbed to this disease. Life is nothingness. Rest in peace, my sis and my coach.”

Loan’s coach during The Voice Vietnam 2012 was late singer Trần Lập – front man of the rock band The Wall, who was diagnosed with cancer around the same time as his student. When he received financial donations from his fans, he reportedly gave them to Loan.

“I was very moved when I received so much love from all my artist buddies and my fans in HCM City. Facing disease and difficulty, everyone needs help and support. However, at the moment, I’m lucky to be able to afford treatment myself during the journey [to fight cancer] ahead. I’m grateful to receive this meaningful gift and will transfer it to Loan. She needs more help than me,” said the late singer, who died in March 2017.

Before reaching the semi-final of The Voice Vietnam, Loan won the singing contest Tiếng Hát Mãi Xanh (Forever Young Voive) 2011.

Though she started her singing career late at the age of 36, Loan’s soprano voice and enthusiastic performing style, similar to Tina Turner’s, won thousands of fans over.  She even was given the nickname ‘Lion’ by her fans.

After finding out that she was in the first phase of liver cancer four years ago, Loan stopped all singing activities and returned to live in her hometown in the central province of Bình Thuận. Alongside cancer, Loan also faced cardiovascular disease and diabetes. — VNS
