QUẢNG BÌNH — More than 3,100 bottles of liquor have been seized in the largest smuggling bust in the central province of Quảng Bình, Vietnam News Agency reported on Sunday.

In Quán Hàu Town, Quảng Ninh District, the provincial police and market surveillance on Saturday stopped and inspected a truck towing a trailer driven by 43-year-old Huỳnh Văn Thao from Bình Định Province’s Phù Mỹ District.

Up to 3,108 bottles of liquor valued at a total of VNĐ1.5 billion (US$64,740) were found hidden inside a secret compartment.

The shipment included 1,188 bottles of Black Nikka Special, 1,740 bottles of Black Clear and 180 bottles of Jonnie Walker Double Black with labels claiming their origins to be from Japan and Scotland, respectively. Driver Thao could not show any certificate or receipt proving the shipment’s legitimacy, however. — VNS
