HCM CITY — A 365-page tear-off calendar featuring images of dogs won first prize in a calendar design contest launched by the southern branch of the Việt Nam Publishers Association and the Book Street Company held last weekend in HCM City.
The contest was part of the Lịch Xuân 2018 (Spring Calendar 2018) exhibition, which took place on the city’s Book Pedestrian Street from October 7-15.
The winning publication was Những Chú Chó Thân Quen (Faithful Dogs) published by the Xuân Phương Nam Calendar Limited Company.
The company’s tear-off calendar called Đồng Dao (Children’s Songs) won second prize, while Trà Đạo (Tea Ceremony) from the An Hảo Limited Company won third prize.
The event showcased 100 models of tear-off and desk calendars of different sizes published by the city’s leading calendar makers, reflecting Việt Nam’s culture, history, intangible and tangible heritage and landscapes.
In the desk calendar category, the organisers awarded the top three prizes to the Nhất Thống Printing and Packing Company’s Về Miền Thơ Ấu (Back to Childhood), Qua Miền Giáo Đường (Going to Church), and Tuyệt Tác Ngàn Năm (Thousand-Year Masterpieces), respectively.
The winner of the most outstanding exhibit was the tear-off calendar from the Song Hành Company called Hành Trình Di Sản Việt (Journey to the Best Heritage of Việt Nam), sized 38 cm x 53 cm.
It featured rare images and documents of famous Vietnamese tangible and intangible heritages such as Hạ Long Bay, Phong Nha – Kẻ Bàng National Park, Hội An Ancient Town, and Sơn Đoàng Cave, as well as tài từ music and gongs. — VNS
