Prime Minister sets 2016 economic targets

The Primer Minister required the Ministry of Planning and Investment to ensure GDP growth of 6.7 per cent this year and inflation of below 5 per cent.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade needs to increase export growth to 10 per cent and reduce the trade deficit as a ratio of exports to below 5 per cent.

HCM City honours six young citizens

Six outstanding young citizens of HCM City were publicly commended on the occasion of New Year after being chosen from among 64 from many fields.

They are Vo Thanh Cong, a fire and rescue policeman; Dam Nguyen Trong Nhan, researcher at HCM City National University's Natural Sciences University; Nguyen Thi Mong Quynh, a 12th grade student at the Nguyen Hue Senior High school in district 9; Dinh Xuan Tan, an automobile engineer; singer Vo Ha Tram from the HCM City Conservatory; and Tran Quoc Trung, a lecturer at the Foreign Trade University – HCM City Branch.

Provinces continue to suffer rain shortfall

Climate change seriously impacted central and Central Highlands provinces in 2015, with the region suffering a shortfall of 500 million cubic metres of water.

The water flow to the region is expected to remain weak, and so the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development has advised Quang Nam and Phu Yen provinces and Da Nang city in the central region and the Central Highlands provinces of Gia Lai and Kon Tum to instruct local authorities to closely watch the situation and regulate water flows in rivers.

Khanh Hoa charges 77 people for corruption

From 2005 to 2015, the central province of Khanh Hoa took disciplinary action against 27 State employees and filed corruption charges against 77 suspects.

Authorities uncovered corruption involving VND269 billion (US$12.3 million) and 670ha of land, but appropriated only 13.65 per cent of them.

Insurance beneficiaries can choose clinic

The Health Insurance Department announced that from January 1 medical insurance participants can register for healthcare at any clinic they choose.

The new regulation will enable people to go to top clinics and also bring pressure on clinics to improve their service quality as well as simplify procedures.

The number of people with medical insurance increased from 61 per cent of the population in 2010 to 71.6 per cent in 2014.
